What is product Certification?
Every electrical hardware device, and specifically a wireless device, has to be certified to operate in specific territories. There are several types of certifications:
- Safety – make sure the product is safe to use
- EMC – make sure the hardware does not emit too much unintentional electrical interference
- Radio – make sure that the radio frequency emissions are within the allowed boundaries
- Cellular – some cellular network operators in some countries require dedicated certifications for connecting to the mobile networks
Why is certification important?
Without proper certification, products may not be imported into a country and may be blocked in customs. In many cases it is also illegal to sell the products if they don't have a particular certification. For example, selling a wireless product in the US that does not have FCC approval is a federal offence.
Where are the Panoramic products certified today?
All of our products (bridge and sensor family – PAN-10/12/14/42) are certified in all of the territories to which we currently sell, including all EU countries, the US, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Israel, Japan and Russia.
In some countries there may be variations in product part number as well as in product specifications (for example – bridge does not support cellular in Brazil).
For a comprehensive list of the specific certification approvals obtained, please refer to the bridge and sensor family datasheets.
Where can I see the existing certificates?
In order to get a copy of a specific certification document, please submit a support ticket to our support team via the "contact support" option in the PowerRadar portal.
Upon need, we can provide the original test reports under an NDA.
What about other countries?
Each country may impose its own unique certification requirements. In some countries, the approval process is based on existing certifications and just requires paperwork and fees; in others, the process also requires testing according to their own standards but no product changes; and in some countries product changes may be necessary.
In some countries, a local representative is required for the approval process, and therefore a local partner is required in countries where we do not have an established legal entity.
Who is responsible for the certification?
It is the importer's obligation to ensure that the product is certified in the country and meets all of the relevant standards.
What will it take to certify the product in a country where it is not currently approved?
Due to the variations between country to country, it is required to check with a local entity what would be the requirements for certification and the costs and timelines involved.
The process of certification can vary between few weeks to many months and costs can vary between few thousands to tens of thousands of dollars.
We will be happy to provide any needed support in this area, given the right business opportunity.
