Quick Search is your fastest way to find sites, accounts, partners, and sensors across the PowerRadar platform. Accessible from anywhere in the application, it lets you search by name, by entity ID, or by sensor serial number — all from a single search bar.

Opening Quick Search

You can open Quick Search in two ways:

  • Click the search bar in the top header of any page
  • Keyboard shortcut: Press Cmd + K (Mac) or Ctrl + K (Windows/Linux)

When you open Quick Search, you'll see:

  1. Advanced search hints — showing the available search prefixes (id: and sn:) with short descriptions
  2. Recent searches — your most recent search selections for quick re-access

Search Modes

Quick Search supports three search modes: Name Search, ID Search, and Sensor Serial Number Search.

1. Name Search (Default)

Simply type 2 or more characters to search across all entity types by name.

What you can search:

Entity Type What's Matched Example
Sites Site name / location Main Office
Accounts Account name Acme Corp
Partners Partner name Energy Solutions

How results are displayed:

  • Results are grouped into Sites, Accounts, and Partners sections
  • Each group header shows a total count badge (e.g., "Sites (42)") so you know how many matches exist
  • Up to 15 results per group are displayed
  • If more results exist than are shown, a note appears: "Showing 15 of 42 — refine your search for more specific results"
  • Your search term is highlighted in the results for easy scanning
  • Each result shows its parent hierarchy (e.g., a site shows its parent account name)

Result icons:

  • S (blue) — Site
  • A (purple) — Account
  • P (amber) — Partner

Sorting: Results are ranked by how closely and early the search term appears in the name, then alphabetically.

2. ID Search (id:)

Search for a specific site or account by its numeric ID.

Syntax: Type id: followed by the ID number.

Input Result
id:4521 Finds the site or account with ID 4521
id: 4521 Also works (space after colon is optional)
ID:4521 Also works (case-insensitive)

What it searches: Sites and Accounts only (not Partners).

When it's useful:

  • You have an entity ID from a report, ticket, or another system
  • You need to navigate directly to a specific site or account without guessing the name
  • Support staff looking up entities referenced by ID in customer communications

If no match is found: A message appears: "No Site or Account found with ID [number]" — double-check the ID and try again.

Fallback behavior: If what you type after id: is not a valid number (e.g., id:abc), Quick Search automatically falls back to a regular name search.

3. Sensor Serial Number Search (sn:)

Search for a sensor by its serial number to quickly find where it's installed.

Syntax: Type sn: followed by the serial number.

Input Result
sn:SN2847A Finds the sensor with serial number SN2847A

What's shown in results:

  • Serial number as the primary identifier (e.g., "SN: SN2847A")
  • Site name and account name where the sensor is installed (e.g., "Main Office — Building A · Acme Corporation")
  • Partner name if applicable
  • Installation status — whether the sensor is allocated to a site or unallocated

Sensor result icons:

  • SN (green) — Allocated sensor (installed at a site)
  • SN (grey) — Unallocated sensor (not currently installed)

When it's useful:

  • Field technicians identifying a sensor on-site and looking up its location in the system
  • Support staff troubleshooting a sensor issue reported with a serial number
  • Inventory management — checking where a specific sensor is deployed

Clicking a sensor result navigates you to the sensor detail / inventory page within the relevant site.

Unallocated sensors are displayed with "Unallocated — Not installed" in the location field.

If no match is found: A message appears: "No sensor found with serial number [serialNumber]" — verify the serial number and try again.

Note: The sn: prefix must be lowercase. Sensor search respects your access permissions — you can only see sensors within scopes you have access to.

Results Popover

The search results appear in a full-height scrollable popover that overlays the page content:

  • All results are visible at once — no need to click "Show more"
  • The popover extends the full height of your browser window
  • A thin scrollbar appears when results overflow, allowing you to scroll through all groups
  • All entity groups (Sites, Accounts, Partners, Sensors) are stacked vertically and scroll together
  • A subtle backdrop dims the page behind the popover for focus

Navigating Results

Mouse

Click any result to navigate directly to that entity's page.

Keyboard

  • Arrow keys (Up / Down) — move through results
  • Enter — open the selected result
  • Escape — close the search popover

Recent Searches

Quick Search remembers your recent selections so you can quickly revisit them:

  • Recent searches appear when you focus the search bar (before typing)
  • Each recent item shows the entity type icon, name, and parent name
  • Click any recent search to navigate back to that entity

Activity Filtering

By default, Quick Search hides inactive or unpaid entities from results to keep your search clean and relevant. This means you'll only see entities that are currently active in the system.

Scope-Based Permissions

Quick Search results respect your user permissions. You will only see entities that are within your assigned scope:

Your Scope Level What You Can Search
Global All partners, accounts, and sites
Partner Accounts and sites under your partner(s)
Account Sites under your account(s)
Multi-Site Only the sites assigned to you

This means different users may see different results for the same search query, based on their access level.

Tips for Effective Searching

Be specific — The more specific your search term, the fewer and more relevant results you'll get. If you see "Showing 15 of 42", try adding more characters to narrow it down.

Use ID search for precision — When you know the exact entity ID, id: search takes you directly there without scrolling through name matches.

Use serial number search on-site — Field technicians can type sn: followed by the serial number printed on the sensor to instantly find its system record.

Check the count badges — The number next to each group header tells you how many total matches exist, even if not all are displayed.

Use keyboard shortcuts — Press Cmd + K / Ctrl + K to open search without reaching for the mouse, then use arrow keys and Enter to navigate results entirely by keyboard.
