What Are Tabs & Presets?

What is it?

A tab is a working view in TimeView - its own device selection, measurement type, time range, and chart settings. You can open several tabs at once to switch between different setups without losing your work.

A preset is a saved snapshot of a tab's configuration - the devices and meters selected, the time range, chart type, and any chart customizations - that you can reload anytime, set as a default, or share with your team.

Why use them?

• Keep more than one analysis open at a time - for example, one tab per building or system.
• Save a complex setup once and reload it in a click instead of rebuilding it.
• Set a preset to load automatically for yourself, or for everyone at the site.
• Share a link to a preset so a colleague sees exactly what you're looking at.

Working in Tabs

Opening a new tab: Click the + button next to your open tabs. A new tab opens labeled View 2 (the number increases with each new tab you open), and your other tabs keep their settings.

Note: You can have up to 10 tabs open at once. At the limit, the + button is disabled.

Switching tabs: Click any tab to make it active. Each tab keeps its own device selection, time range, and chart settings independently of the others.

Tab options: Click the ⋮ icon on a tab to open its menu:

• Pin tab - keeps the tab in place, marked with a pin icon.
• Duplicate tab - creates a copy of the tab with the same settings, labeled "{tab name} (copy)."
• Save as preset - saves the tab's current configuration as a preset.
• Close tab
• Close other tabs

Note: Working in more than one tab at a time requires the Optimize package. On Visualize, TimeView opens with a single tab and no + button.

Saving a View as a Preset

Once a tab is set up the way you want - devices selected, time range, chart type, and any customizations - save it as a preset so you can return to it later.

1. Set up your tab: select your devices, choose your measurement type, set your time range, and adjust any chart settings.
2. Click Save preset in the top-right toolbar, or choose Save as preset from the tab's ⋮ menu.
3. If a preset is already loaded in this tab, click the ▾ next to Save preset to choose:
   • Save as new preset - creates a new preset from your current changes.
   • Save changes into this preset - updates the currently loaded preset instead of creating a new one. This option is greyed out if no preset is loaded yet.
4. In the Save tab as preset dialog, fill in:
   • Preset Name (required)
   • Description (optional) - or click Generate description to have one written for you
   • Visibility (required): Private (only you can see this preset) or Share with team (everyone at this site can see it)
   • Set as my default preset and/or Set as site default preset, if you want either
5. Click Save.

Managing Your Presets

Click Presets in the top-right toolbar to open the presets panel. Click Hide list to close it again.

If you haven't saved a preset yet, the panel shows a short walkthrough - Get started with presets - with three steps: adjust your TimeView settings, save them with Save as new preset, then access and manage them from this panel.

Once you have presets saved, they're listed under headings such as Created by me, with a Filter presets search box above the list. Each preset shows:

• The measurement type(s) and time range, for example ⚡ Power ≈ Flow · 7d
• Its name as a clickable link - click it to load the preset into the current tab
• Its status, Unpublished for a private preset.
• A Default label if it's set as a default

Click the ⋮ menu on a preset for these actions:

• Share latest view - copies a link that always shows the latest data for this preset, rather than a frozen snapshot from when you shared it.
• Edit preset - opens the same dialog used to save it, pre-filled, so you can change the name, description, visibility, or default settings.
• Delete preset - permanently removes it.

Setting a Default Preset

There's no separate "set as default" action on the preset card - defaults are set from the Save tab as preset or Edit preset dialog:

• Check Set as my default preset so this view loads automatically for you whenever you open TimeView.
• Check Set as site default preset so it loads automatically for everyone at the site, if you have permission to set one.

A preset set as a default shows a Default label next to it in the presets panel.

Closing a Tab with Unsaved Changes

If you close a tab that has unsaved changes, TimeView asks first:

Save changes before closing? You can save your configurations as a preset for your next review.

Discard changes · Save as new preset

Click Save as new preset to save your changes before the tab closes, or Discard changes to close without saving.

Things to Know

Notes:

• Multi-tab is Optimize-only. Working in more than one tab at a time requires the Optimize package.
• Relative time ranges keep updating. A preset saved with a range like "Last 7 days" is relative - it shows up-to-date results every time it loads. The presets panel flags this: "Uses relative time (like last 7 days). Results change over time."
• Shared links stay live. "Share latest view" always reflects current data for the preset - it isn't a frozen snapshot of the moment you shared it.
• Tabs can't be renamed directly. Give a view a name by saving it as a preset instead.
