Selecting Devices with the Tree

The device tree is how you choose what appears on the TimeView chart - from your whole site down to a single circuit or phase.

How the Tree Is Organized Selecting Devices Going to Circuit and Phase Level Using the Context Menu Changing the Group By View Searching for a Device (Optimize) Adding Devices from Other Sites (Optimize) Related Articles

How the Tree Is Organized

The left panel contains your site's devices in a collapsible hierarchy. The default structure is:

Site → Category → Subcategory → Device → Circuit / Phase

For example: Textiles Manufacturer → EV Charging → EV Charger A → Phase R

Each level can be expanded by clicking the arrow next to its name. The site node at the top is always visible and acts as the starting point.

On Optimize, a second section - Meters - appears below Panoramic Sensors, listing any external meters (gas, water, air, and others) configured at the site. The Meters section has its own search box. If no meters are configured, it shows "No meters on this site yet."

Meter rows display the meter name, unit (e.g., ft³), and meter type (e.g., Digital Pulse). If the active measurement type isn't supported by a meter, the row shows a No [metric] data label and a tooltip explaining which metrics that meter does support - for example: "This node only supports: Power, Energy, Cost." To resolve it, switch to a supported metric or deselect the meter.

Selecting Devices

Tick the checkbox next to any item to add it to the chart. Selections are independent — ticking a child does not affect its parent, and ticking a parent does not automatically select its children. You build exactly the combination you want, at whatever level of the hierarchy makes sense.

The Panoramic Sensors badge updates to show how many items you currently have selected.

To remove a specific item, untick it. To clear everything at once, click Clear all (top right of the Panoramic Sensors section).

You can chart up to 100 items at once. If you exceed the limit, TimeView shows a warning.

Going to Circuit and Phase Level

To plot an individual circuit or phase rather than a whole device, expand the device node by clicking its arrow. Each child represents a circuit or sensor phase (labeled R / S / T, or L1 / L2 / L3). Tick the one you want.

Each sensor row shows:

  • The phase label - L1 / L2 / L3 or R / S / T, depending on how your site is wired.
  • The serial number.
  • A sensor type tag - PAN 10, PAN 42, and so on.

Device rows also display an orange PAN badge and a phase configuration label (for example, 3P/3S = 3-phase device with 3 sensors installed, 3P/1S = 3-phase device with 1 sensor).

If a sensor has been uninstalled, the row shows a wrench icon and a tooltip: "This device's sensor was uninstalled."

Note: Sensor type tags and the phase configuration badge are visible on Optimize. On Visualize you see the phase label and serial number only.

Using the Context Menu

Hover over any node to reveal a three-dot ⋮ menu on the right. The options depend on which level you're hovering:

At a device node:

  • Select all sensors - checks all phase/sensor children of this device.
  • Deselect all sensors - unchecks all phase/sensor children.
  • Show device configuration - opens the configuration page for this device.

At a category or subcategory node:

  • Select all / Deselect all - checks or unchecks everything under this node.
  • Expand all / Collapse all - opens or closes all nested levels below.

Changing the Group By View

By default the tree organizes devices by Device type (category and subcategory). Use the Group by dropdown at the top of the Panoramic Sensors section to switch to a different view:

View Organizes the tree by
Device type Category → Subcategory → Device (default)
Zone > Panel Electrical zone and panel location
Category Top-level category only
Groups Custom device groups defined in the Groups feature (Optimize)

When you switch views, your current selection is preserved where possible.

Group by Groups (Optimize): Devices appear under the groups they belong to. A + indicator means the device is included in the group's total; a − means it is subtracted. If no groups have been created at the site, the tree shows an empty state with a Create group link.

Searching for a Device (Optimize)

Use the Search box at the top of the Panoramic Sensors section to find a device by name.

  1. Type at least 2 characters - the tree filters and shows "Found X matches" with ▲ ▼ arrows to step through them. The current match is highlighted in orange.
  2. Use the ▲ ▼ arrows to move between matches (shown as 1/5, 2/5, and so on).
  3. Tick any checkbox to add that device to the chart without leaving the search.
  4. Click Results (top right of the search box) to switch to a flat list showing all matches with their full breadcrumb path — for example: Main Building → Electrical Panel A → HVAC Unit 3. Click Tree to switch back.
  5. Click × to clear the search and return the tree to its full view.

Note: Search covers all levels of the tree except individual sensor nodes. It is available on Optimize only.

Adding Devices from Other Sites (Optimize)

The Other Sites tab (next to This site at the top of the tree panel) lets you add devices from other sites you have access to - and plot them on the same chart as your current site.

  1. Click Other Sites - the tab shows how many other accessible sites you have (e.g., "Other sites (3)").
  2. Browse or search to find a device.
  3. Tick its checkbox. It appears in the chart and legend alongside your current site's devices.

Note: Devices from other sites are excluded from CSV export. Compare mode works across sites.
