What It Shows

What is it?

The Top Consumers widget ranks your site's largest consumers over a time range you choose - as individual devices, device categories, or groups - so you can see where most of your energy or power is going.

Why use it?

• Spot your biggest consumers at a glance, without building a report.
• Choose how many to show, and whether to rank by energy or power.
• Group the ranking by individual devices, device categories, or your own groups, depending on what level of detail you want.

Adding This Widget

In the Add widget picker, this widget's card is labeled "Largest power consumers." Top Consumers is a Small widget - it takes up 1 box on your dashboard page. For the full two-step add flow and the box-cap counter, see Adding Widgets to Your Dashboard - and Sharing It.

Settings

Configure these in the 5 top consumers by device preferences window - Step 2 of adding the widget:

Show

Choose how many consumers to rank: 5 consumers or 10 consumers.

Chart type

Choose Energy or Power as the measurement the ranking is based on.

Show trend

A toggle that adds a trend indicator to the ranking, comparing it to a previous period.

Time range

Choose Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, or Last 30 days. The widget recalculates the ranking for whichever period you pick.

Group by

Choose how consumers are grouped: Individual devices, Device categories, or Groups. A note under this control reads: "Mains are excluded due to high consumption" - so mains-level circuits don't dominate a ranking that's meant to surface individual consumers.

Note: The Live data preview on the right updates as you change these settings, so you can see the effect before adding the widget to your dashboard.

Reading the Widget

Once placed on your dashboard, the widget shows:

• A title that reflects your Show and Group by choices - for example "5 top consumers by device," "10 top consumers by device," or "5 top consumers by category."
• The selected Time range underneath the title (for example Last 24 hours or Last 7 days).
• An overall trend percentage near the top, if Show trend is on.
• A bar chart with one bar per consumer, each labeled with its name and its share of the total as a percentage (for example 46%, 5%), plus its own trend arrow and percentage.
• If a Group by category has no consumption for the period, it still appears in the chart at 0% rather than being left out (seen with Device categories grouping).

Things to Know

• Mains are always excluded. Regardless of how you group the ranking, mains-level circuits are left out because their high consumption would otherwise dominate the list.
• Grouping changes what "a consumer" means. The same underlying data can be ranked by individual devices, by device categories, or by your site's own groups - pick whichever level matches the question you're trying to answer.
• The widget's title changes with your settings. "Show" (5 or 10) and "Group by" (device / category / group) are both reflected directly in the on-dashboard title, so you can tell how a widget is configured just by reading its heading.
