The electrical hierarchy is a map of how your site is wired: which devices sit inside which. Arranging it correctly is what keeps your site's energy numbers accurate.

What it is

Your site is organized as a tree that mirrors the physical wiring. A main feed powers sub-panels and sub-mains, which in turn power individual loads such as an air conditioner, lighting, or an EV charger. Each device is measured by one or more sensors.

There are two separate hierarchies per site, one for each direction:

  • Consumption, what the site uses.
  • Generation, what the site produces, for example solar.

Why it matters

The organization directly affects what you see in reports and dashboards.

  • Accurate totals. Only top-level feeds count toward the site total. A device placed under a main is already included in that main's reading, so it is not counted a second time. This is what prevents double-counting.
  • Visibility of hidden loads. For any device, its reading minus the readings of the devices beneath it reveals the "other" load in that area, the part with no dedicated sensor.

A simple example

Imagine a main that reads 100 kWh:

  • Main (whole site): 100 kWh
    • Air Conditioner: 60
    • Lighting: 25
    • Other (no sensor): 15

The site total is 100 kWh only. "Other" is what remains after the measured children: 100 − 60 − 25 = 15.

If the air conditioner were mistakenly left at the top level instead of under the main, the site total would wrongly read 160 kWh.

How to arrange it

Open Configuration › Electrical hierarchy for the site. The screen has two working panels: the Device catalog on the left, where you find devices, and the hierarchy in the middle, where you place them.

1. Find the device

In the Device catalog:

  • Search by device name or panel name.
  • Filter by category, by electrical panel, or both.
  • Sort by name, category, panel, or phase count. Sorting by panel or category also groups the list under headings.
  • Tick a device to pick it up. Tick several to move them together, and hold Shift while clicking to select a whole run of rows at once.

Ticking a device also expands the hierarchy and scrolls to it, so you can see where it sits today before you move it. Hovering a row in the catalog tells you the same thing in a tooltip.

2. Place it

Once something is selected, the hierarchy shows you where it can go. Rows that cannot accept the selection are dimmed, and hovering one explains why. You then have three ways to place it, all equivalent:

  • Click to place. Hover a row that can accept the selection and choose Move here. This moves everything you selected in one step and is the fastest option on a large site.
  • Drag. Drag a device from the catalog, or from its grip handle inside the hierarchy, onto the parent. Dragging one device out of a larger selection moves the whole selection. To move a device back to the top level, drop it on the Drop here to move to root level strip.
  • Move under. Choose Move under... from the selection bar, from the toolbar, or from a row's ⋮ menu. This opens a searchable list of every parent that can accept the device, grouped by main incomer, which avoids a long drag through a deep tree.

A banner at the top of the hierarchy shows how many devices are selected and how many of them are currently visible on screen, with a Next selected button to step through them.

3. Review and save

  • Every move is listed in the Change Log. A move of several devices appears as a single entry.
  • Undo on the most recent entry puts those devices back exactly where they were.
  • Save applies the changes. Reset discards everything you have not saved yet.

Nothing is applied to the site until you press Save, so you can rearrange freely and reset if you change your mind.

4. See the whole hierarchy at once

Select the tree icon at the top of the Device catalog to open Full hierarchy: every device in the current direction shown as one diagram, so you can check the shape of the site at a glance instead of scrolling through rows.

  • Zoom with the scroll wheel, and drag to move around. Reset view returns to the fitted view.
  • Select a device to collapse or expand its branch. Hover one to see its level, category, panel, phase count, and how many devices sit under it.
  • The circle colours match the level colours in the hierarchy panel, and the legend names every level your site has.
  • This view is for reading, not editing. To work on a device you spot here, select it and choose Show in hierarchy, which takes you straight to it in the middle panel.

Placement rules

A device can only sit under a compatible parent:

  • The same direction: a consumption device cannot go under a generation device, or the reverse.
  • An equal or higher number of phases. A three-phase device cannot go under a single-phase one, while a single-phase device can go under a three-phase one.
  • Not under itself or anything already beneath it, which would create a loop.

The parent a device already has is never offered, since moving it there would change nothing. Anywhere a move is not allowed, the screen dims the row and tells you the reason rather than letting you try.

After you save, totals and breakdowns update to reflect the new structure.
