The electrical hierarchy is a map of how your site is wired — which devices sit inside which. Arranging it correctly is what keeps your site's energy numbers accurate.
What it is
Your site is organized as a tree that mirrors the physical wiring. A main feed powers sub-panels and sub-mains, which in turn power individual loads such as an air conditioner, lighting, or an EV charger. Each device is measured by one or more sensors.
There are two separate hierarchies per site, one for each direction of energy:
- Consumption — energy the site uses.
- Generation — energy the site produces, such as solar.
Why it matters
The hierarchy is not only for organization — it directly affects the numbers you see in reports and dashboards.
- Accurate site totals. Only your main feeds count toward the site total. A device placed under a main is already included in that main's reading, so it is not counted a second time. Arranging devices correctly prevents double-counting.
- Visibility into hidden loads. For any device, its own reading minus the readings of the devices beneath it reveals the "other" load — the consumption in that area that has no dedicated sensor.
A simple example
Imagine a main that reads 100 kWh, with two measured devices beneath it:

The site total is 100 kWh — the main only. The "Other" figure of 15 kWh is what remains after the measured devices: 100 − 60 − 25. If the air conditioner were mistakenly left at the top level instead of under the main, the site total would wrongly read 160 kWh.
How to arrange the hierarchy
- Open Configuration › Electrical hierarchy for your site.
- Find a device in the Device catalog on the left (use the search if you have many devices).
- Drag it onto the device it should sit under in the middle. You can also drag devices that are already in the tree to rearrange them.
- Review your changes in the Change Log, then click Save. Use Reset to discard changes before saving.
Placement rules
A device can only be placed under a compatible parent:
- Same direction — a consumption device goes under a consumption device, and a generation device under a generation device.
- Phase count — a device can only go under a parent with an equal or higher number of phases (for example, a 3-phase device cannot sit under a single-phase one).
If a move is not allowed, the screen tells you why.
After you save, your site's totals and breakdowns update to reflect the new structure.
