Two Ways to Navigate
TimeView gives you two different ways to look closer at your data:
Zoom - adjusts your view within the period you already have loaded. It does not change the data resolution. If you are viewing Last 7 days with hourly data, zooming in still shows hourly data - just fewer hours at a time.
Drill-down - loads a new, finer period. Clicking into a day loads that day's data at a higher resolution. The period selector updates, the overview refreshes, and you can keep drilling deeper.
Understanding which one you are doing helps you know what to expect from the chart.
The Overview
The Overview is the thin miniature chart that sits below the main chart. It always shows your full loaded period as a continuous area shape.
Two blue handle markers sit at the left and right edges of the Overview. These mark the boundaries of what the main chart is currently showing.

Zooming In
To zoom in on a portion of the chart:
- Drag a handle inward - drag the left handle to the right, or the right handle to the left, to narrow the selection window.
- Drag the center of the selection window - move the entire window left or right within the loaded range.
As you drag, the main chart updates instantly to show only the selected window. The X-axis adjusts to the narrower range with denser time labels.

When zoom is active, a 🔍 Zoomed × chip appears above the chart, just below the toolbar. This confirms that what you see is a zoomed view of a larger loaded range.
Resetting the Zoom
Click the × on the 🔍 Zoomed × chip to reset the zoom. The main chart returns to showing the full loaded period. The handles in the Overview return to the far edges.
Hiding and Showing the Overview
Click ← Hide Overview (bottom right of the Overview strip) to collapse it. The main chart expands slightly.
If you are zoomed when you hide the Overview, the zoom stays active - the 🔍 Zoomed × chip remains visible so you can still reset it.
Click → Show Overview to bring it back. The selection window reappears at the position you left it.
Drilling Down
Drill-down loads your data at a finer resolution by clicking into a specific time bucket on the chart.
How to drill:
- On a line chart (for example, Last 30 days showing daily data), click any date label on the X-axis - for example, click "09" to drill into July 9.
- On a bar chart (for example, Last 12 months showing monthly bars), click any bar to drill into that month or day.
When you drill in, the chart reloads at the finer level. The period selector at the top updates to show the drilled period (for example, Thu, Jul 23 ▾). The Overview also updates to reflect just the drilled period.

Drill levels:
Starting from a long period, you can drill progressively deeper:
| Starting view | Click | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Year or multi-month (monthly data) | A month label or bar | That month's data |
| Month (daily data) | A day label or bar | That day's data |
| Day (hourly data) | Inside the chart | The 6-hour window containing that time |
| 6-hour window | — | Cannot drill further |
At the 6-hour level, drill-down is disabled. Clicking the chart does nothing further.

Reading the Breadcrumb
Each time you drill down, a breadcrumb appears above the chart on the left. It shows every level you have drilled through, separated by >.
For example: 20 Jul > 23 Jul > 06:00–11:59
Click any item in the breadcrumb to return to that level. Clicking "23 Jul" returns you to the day view.
Things to Know
Zoom and drill-down are independent. You can use the zoom while drilled in - the Overview still shows the drilled period, and you can narrow the view within it. Zoom does not change the drill level, and drilling resets zoom to the full range of the new level.
The period selector reflects drill state, not zoom state. After drilling, the period selector shows the drilled period (e.g., "Thu, Jul 09"). If you only zoom - without drilling - the period selector stays as "Last 7 days." This is how you can tell which mode you are in at a glance.
Drilling updates the Overview. After drilling into a day, the Overview shows just that day. After drilling into a 6-hour window, the Overview shows just those 6 hours. The Overview always reflects the currently loaded period.
6 hours is the finest level. Drill-down stops at a 6-hour window. You cannot drill into a single hour.
Hide Overview does not reset zoom. If you collapse the Overview while zoomed, your zoom stays active. The 🔍 Zoomed × chip remains visible so you can reset it.
